Biological Reagents
The BFF is well equipped to produce biological products for use in analytical and other reagent applications. Peptides, proteins and metabolic products are routinely produced to high quality for academic and commercial clients. A range of services are available:
- Molecular biology services including gene optimization, cloning and transformation to generate ideal expression hosts.
- Growth of native or recombinant cultures from 750 ml to 800 L with typically short lead times of 1 to 3 weeks from the placement of orders.
- Protein and peptide purification in a dedicated purification suite. A number of HPLC and FPLC systems with flow rates up to 800 ml/min and columns from 1 ml to 12 L are used in combination with chemical and physical purification methods to purify products.
- Production of labeled products, such as N15 or C13 labeled peptides.
- A dedicated fill/finish suite is set up to bottle products aseptically and shelf lyophilizers and spray dryers are available to dry proteins, peptides and other products. Labeling is also available.
- A dedicated well equipped analytical lab is used to ensure product purity and quality meets client specifications
Track Record
The BFF has purified hundreds of proteins from mg amounts to multi-gram quantities that have been used as lab reagents, agricultural biological control agents, environmental products, water treatment products and biodefense agents.
We have expressed and purified a number of very difficult to handle proteins including highly insoluble products, toxic products and low-yielding products.
