Biomass Production

The fermentation group at the BFF has an established track record of providing customers with large quantities of biomass for recombinant protein production, cellulosic biofuels and feed/food industry biochemicals. Fully automated cutting edge fermentors ranging from 1L up to 800L are available in house providing for all your fermentation needs. Using this state-of-the-art equipment, our experts are able to obtain high cell densities (up to 250 g/L wet weight) and high product yields by performing tightly controlled fed-batch fermentations.

The BFF has been successfully growing many different types of microorganisms including E. coli, Bacillus spp, Pichia pastoris, Kluyveromyces spp, Saccharomyces spp. as well as various other types of bacteria, yeast, fungi and archaea for more than two decades. We also have a considerable reputation for growing thermophilic and anaerobic microorganisms, including Thermus thermophilus for Venki Ramakrishnan, from which his lab was able to determine the crystal structure of its 30S ribosomal subunit contributing to his award of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
