For Academic Researchers
Do you, your post-docs or students spend all of their time growing shake flasks to generate cells and purifying products rather than focusing on the action of the products, which is what you really want to do? We can take away the drudgery and leg work allowing you to focus on the interesting stuff. In a week or two, we can provide you with grams to kilos of cell paste, or mgs to grams of protein at less than the cost of months of a grad student stipend. The time that is freed up can be used to learn even more about your products of interest – once you are released from the shackles of product limitation you can really get your research on track.
Services that we can provide include:
- Molecular biology services including gene optimization, cloning and transformation to generate ideal expression hosts.
- Mammalian cell culture: Our new cell culture suite allows production of cultures up to 20L scale at BSL2 or BSL3 containment.
- Growth of microbial cultures from 750 ml to 800 L with typically short lead times of 1 to 3 weeks from the placement of orders. Cells can be shipped frozen in small aliquots allowing you to use the material as you need it.
- Harvesting of cultures and initial purification through centrifugation and TFF.
- Purification of products.
- A dedicated well equipped analytical lab is used to ensure product purity and quality meets client specifications.
Track Record
The BFF has worked with more than 50 academic institutions and national labs providing cells and proteins that have been used in ground breaking research.
Cells generated at the BFF contributed to ribosome structural studies in a number of labs globally including the lab of 2009 Nobel Prize for Chemistry winner Venki Ramakrishnan.
The BFF is internationally known for experience and ability to grow a wide range of microbial cultures including anaerobes, thermophiles, hyperthermopiles, acidophiles, alkaliphiles and halophiles.
