The BFF is well equipped to develop industrial processes, scale up to pilot scale production and aid with transfer of processes to larger scale manufacturers.  Production and shipping of biomass, metabolites, and proteins is also available.

  • Molecular biology services including gene optimization, cloning and transformation to generate ideal expression hosts.
  • Fermentation Optimization: Our Das-Gip fed-batch Pro 8 reactor system is ideal for early stage development of process conditions and media.  Our suite of New Brunswick Bioflo 3000 units is equally suited to this task.
  • Growth of native or recombinant cultures from 750 ml to 800 L with typically short lead times of 1 to 3 weeks from the placement of orders.
  • Downstream processing optimization: Development of centrifugation, TFF and other methods from bench to pilot scale.
  • Harvesting of cultures and initial purification through centrifugation, TFF and other physical methods.
  • Product purification optimization: development of purification methods for cells, proteins, peptides, viruses, metabolites and other biological products through physical, chemical, and chromatographic methods.
  • A dedicated fill/finish suite is set up to bottle products aseptically and shelf lyophilizers and spray dryers are available to dry proteins, peptides and other products.  Labeling is also available.
  • A dedicated well equipped analytical lab is used to ensure product purity and quality meets client specifications.

Track Record

The BFF has optimized processes for the production of a range of biotechnology products from biofuels and biochemicals to analytical reagents; from agricultural and environmental products to pre-clinical pharmaceutical products; and from industrial enzymes to plasmid DNA.

We have scaled up processes to 800L production for bacteria, yeasts and fungi to produce biomass, metabolites and cellular products used by clients for field trials, testing and product sales.

We have shipped cells, metabolic products, proteins, peptides and transformed products to clients.
